This February Javier Velasco’s multimedia work will be on display in Miami. “Skyfall,” a combination of photography and paintings, is his personal reflection on how today’s art world challenges artists to take a dive into the unknown, will open on February 21 at Wynwood’s Buzzart.

The idea behind “Skyfall” or people falling on art-related spaces such as museums, art collections or galleries, is to draw the public’s attention on the challenges faced by contemporary artists and the environment where they have to develop their art. The challenges faced by artists force them to metaphorically die “for the love of art,” to then being born again with renewed energies and ideas. The show is based on Ron M. Brown’s book “The Art of Suicide.”

The show presents a group of black and white photos with paint and red Mercurochrome that resemble satellite images of the Earth’s orography. A reminder that, in the end, that “skyfall” is only part of creation and life, of that vital blood flow that is life and thus, a new hope.

Born in the province of Cádiz, Velasco’s is well known and appreciated for his multidisciplinary nature. In recent works he has been using blown glass to create work that refers to the ephemeral and the fragility of nature and the environment. His work has been presented in numerous galleries, museums and fairs, including Spain’s ARCO, BIACS, Art Cologne, Arte Lisboa and Arteaméricas and is part of prestigious collections such as the MAT in Mexico, Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia in Spain and the Consulate of Spain in Miami. “Skyfall” is the second art show of Buzzart. The Wynwood gallery opened its doors last October with a highly acclaimed show by Cuban master photographer Juan Carlos Alom.
